Old Fashioned Chocolate Gravy
Ingredients
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup Hershey’s cocoa
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups whole milk
2–3 tablespoons salted butter
2 teaspoons vanilla
Instructions
In a bowl, mix the dry ingredients (sugar, cocoa, and flour) and whisk until smooth with no lumps.
Add milk gradually while whisking to combine well.
Pour the mixture into a pan and cook over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla.
If the gravy becomes too thick, add a little milk or heavy cream to loosen it.
How to Make the Best Bacon Gravy Ever!
Ingredients
6 slices of bacon (or more, if desired)
2–4 cups of milk
3 tablespoons flour
3 tablespoons bacon grease
Salt, to taste
Pepper, to taste
Instructions
Fry bacon until crispy, then set aside.
Reserve about 3 tablespoons of bacon grease in the pan.
Add 3 tablespoons of flour to the grease, stirring constantly. Cook until it reaches your desired color — the longer you cook it, the darker the gravy will be.
Gradually add milk, stirring until it reaches your preferred consistency.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Crumble the cooked bacon into the gravy and stir.
Serve hot and enjoy over biscuits, potatoes, or eggs.
Easy Sprite Biscuits
Ingredients
2 cups Bisquick
3/4 cup Sprite
3/4 cup sour cream
1/2 stick of butter
Instructions
Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).
In a medium-sized bowl, stir together Bisquick, Sprite, and sour cream until just combined.
Lightly sprinkle the countertop with Bisquick and place the dough on it.
Knead gently and pat the dough out to about 1/2 inch thick, adding more Bisquick if needed to form a soft dough.
Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter or a glass jar.
Place a cast iron pan in the oven to preheat. Once hot, add about 3 tablespoons of butter and let it melt.
Place biscuits on top of the melted butter in the pan.
Bake for 13–15 minutes, or until golden brown.
Brush the tops with butter before serving.
Chocolate Chip Pancakes
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2–1 cup milk chocolate chips
Oil for frying
Instructions
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
Add eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla. Mix until smooth, then fold in chocolate chips.
Let the batter rest for about 10 minutes while heating oil or grease in a pan.
Pour batter into the hot pan. When edges bubble, flip the pancake and cook until golden brown.
Repeat with remaining batter. Serve with syrup, powdered sugar, whipped cream, and extra chocolate chips. Enjoy!
Creamy Southern Grits
Ingredients
1 cup grits (I used Jim Dandy)
4 cups water
1/2 stick butter
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
Salt and pepper
Instructions
Bring salted water to a boil and add grits, whisking immediately to avoid lumps.
Add butter and stir well, bringing it back to a boil.
Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
Add cream, stir well, and simmer another 10 minutes until grits are soft and creamy.
Grits Casserole
Ingredients
1/2 cup grits
2 cups water or chicken broth
3 tbsp butter (plus some to grease casserole dish)
4 cups cheese
4 room temperature eggs
1 cup milk
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 roll sausage
1/2 cup chopped onion, 1 seeded jalapeño, and 1/2 cup bell pepper (optional)
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp thyme
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°.
Bring 2 cups of water or chicken broth to a boil, add grits while whisking to avoid lumps. Reduce heat and let simmer, stirring frequently.
When grits thicken, add 2–3 tablespoons of butter and cream. Blend well and simmer for about 5 more minutes.
Cook sausage and optional veggies until tender.
Whisk 4 eggs with milk. Add 1 cup of cheese and melt into grits. Temper by adding about 1/2 cup of hot grits into the egg mixture, then combine everything together.
Mix in the meat and veggie mixture, then pour into a buttered casserole dish.
Top with shredded cheese and bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Enjoy!
Old Fashion Tomato Gravy
Ingredients
5 slices of bacon (reserving grease)
1/2 cup chopped onion
3 tablespoons flour
1 1/2 cups chicken broth
1 cup whole milk
1 can diced tomatoes
1/2–1 cup ketchup
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
Fry bacon until crispy and set aside, reserving the bacon grease.
Add chopped onion to the grease and cook until slightly translucent.
Add flour, stirring and frying until lightly browned.
Stir in diced tomatoes and chicken broth, then simmer for about 5 minutes.
Add milk and 1/2 to 1 cup of ketchup to taste.
Crumble the bacon back into the gravy and season with salt and pepper.
Enjoy over hot biscuits, rice, or mashed potatoes.
Easy Bacon, Spinach and Cheese Quiche
Ingredients
1 (9-inch) refrigerated pie crust
6 eggs
1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
1 pound cooked bacon (reserve 1/2 cup for top)
1 1/2 cups shredded Swiss cheese (reserve 1/2 cup for top)
2 cups chopped baby spinach
1/2 cup sautéed onions (optional)
Salt, pepper, and accent to taste
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°.
Whisk together eggs, heavy whipping cream, salt, pepper, and accent.
Add spinach, bacon, and cheese, then pour the mixture into the pie crust.
Top with the reserved bacon and cheese.
Bake at 375° for 35–45 minutes, or until the quiche is set and golden on top.
Gorilla Bread
Ingredients
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 (8 oz) package cream cheese
2 (12 oz) cans refrigerated biscuits (10 count each)
1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped pecans
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F and spray a bundt pan generously with nonstick cooking spray.
Mix granulated sugar and cinnamon together; set aside.
In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over low heat. Add vanilla and stir well; set aside.
Cut the cream cheese into 20 equal cubes.
Press each biscuit flat and sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon sugar.
Place a cube of cream cheese in the center of each biscuit, then wrap and seal the dough around the cream cheese.
Sprinkle 1/2 cup pecans into the bottom of the bundt pan.
Layer half the prepared biscuits in the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, pour half the butter mixture, and add another 1/2 cup pecans.
Repeat with the remaining biscuits, cinnamon sugar, butter mixture, and pecans.
Bake for 30 minutes, then remove from oven and cool for 5 minutes.
Place a plate on top and invert to remove the bread. Serve warm.
Country Breakfast Casserole
Ingredients
1 lb sausage
6–7 eggs
1 red bell pepper
1 onion
Mushrooms (optional)
Shredded cheese
4–5 potatoes, cubed
Bacon grease
Salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder
Jalapeños (optional)
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°.
Cook sausage until browned, then add vegetables and cook for about 5 minutes.
Remove from heat and pour into a buttered casserole dish.
Add bacon grease to the pan and cook potatoes for about 5 minutes, seasoning well.
Layer the potatoes on top of the meat mixture.
Whisk eggs with milk and cream, season, then pour over the meat and potato mixture.
Top with shredded cheese and bake for 30–40 minutes, or until golden and set.
Enjoy!
Blueberry Biscuits
Ingredients
3 1/4 cups Southern Biscuit Complete Biscuit Mix (Formula L)
1 1/4 cups buttermilk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 cup fresh blueberries
1/2 stick butter
Glaze
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (10x)
2 tbsp lemon juice
4 tbsp buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat oven to 450°F.
Stir together biscuit mix and buttermilk using as few strokes as possible until just combined.
Mix sugar with blueberries and set aside.
Sprinkle flour on a surface, place dough on top, sprinkle more flour on top, and flatten.
Pour blueberries on top of dough and fold them into the center of the dough.
Flatten dough with your hand and cut into biscuits.
Melt butter in a baking pan (cast iron works great) and place biscuits on top.
Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.
Mix glaze ingredients well and pour over biscuits while hot. Enjoy!
Easy Homemade Biscuits with Sausage Gravy

Southern Biscuit Formula L Biscuit Mix
Buttermilk
Butter
Instructions (Biscuits)
Preheat oven to 450°F.
Place 1/2 stick of butter in a skillet and melt in the oven.
Follow the biscuit recipe on the package by mixing the biscuit mix with buttermilk until a sticky dough forms.
Transfer dough to a floured surface, flip to coat both sides with flour, and pat down to about 1/2 inch thick.
Cut biscuits using a glass or biscuit cutter and place in the buttered skillet.
Bake for 12–14 minutes, until golden brown on top. Optionally, brush lightly with butter after baking.
Sausage Gravy
Jimmy Dean Sausage Roll
3 tbsp self-rising flour
4 cups milk
Butter (optional)
Salt & pepper
Garlic powder and onion powder (optional)
Instructions (Gravy)
Cook sausage in a skillet until browned, leaving some grease in the pan.
If the sausage is lean, add a small amount of butter.
Sprinkle flour over the sausage and cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring constantly to avoid sticking.
Slowly add 2 cups of milk, stirring continuously, then add the remaining milk.
Allow to simmer until thickened. Adjust consistency with more milk if too thick or a flour-water mixture if too thin.
Season with salt, pepper, and (if desired) 1 tsp each of garlic powder and onion powder. Enjoy!
Simple Banana Bread
2 cups self-rising flour
1 cup sugar
4 bananas, mashed (about 1½ cups)
½ cup butter, room temperature
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon banana extract (optional)
1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a 9×5-inch loaf pan with baking spray or grease and flour.
Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs and mix until combined.
Stir in flour just until mixed—do not overmix.
Fold in mashed bananas, nuts, and extracts. Mix until fully combined.
Spread batter evenly into the prepared loaf pan.
Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove and place on a wire rack to cool completely.
Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Enjoy!
3-Ingredients Mayonnaise Biscuits
Ingredients
2 cups of self-rising flour
6 tbsp Dukes mayonnaise
1 cup of whole milk or buttermilk
Instructions
Preheat oven to 450°. Stir milk, flour and mayonnaise together until blended. Drop into buttered muffin tins or prepared baking sheet, bake 12-15 min. Until golden brown.
Rhonda’s Lowcountry Shrimp and Grits
2 servings cooked grits
1/2 cup crispy crumbled bacon
1/2 cup cooked sausage (optional)
1/2 cup diced onion
1/2 cup diced green pepper
20 medium to large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 tablespoon white wine
1 cup heavy cream
Chopped green onion tops
Diced fresh tomatoes (optional)
Shredded cheese (optional)
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste
Garlic powder, to taste
Instructions
Cook grits according to package directions; set aside and keep warm.
Cook bacon and reserve some of the grease in the pan to sauté onions and peppers.
When onions and peppers are translucent, add shrimp and cook until pink. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Cook sausage in the same pan, then add to the shrimp mixture.
In the hot pan, add 1 tablespoon of white wine to deglaze, then slowly add heavy cream, whisking until thickened to a gravy consistency.
Season the sauce with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
Divide grits between 2 plates. Pour the sauce over the grits, then top with the shrimp and sausage mixture.
Sprinkle with shredded cheese, diced tomatoes, and garnish with chopped green onions.
*For more servings of grits, double the heavy whipping cream and add an extra tablespoon of white wine.*
